Cigar Stories-GC Puffs
Thursday, January 27, 2011M.A.S.H. and a Carlos Torano 1959 50 Years

Last night after a great dinner of roasted chicken I decided to indulge in a few hours of my all time favorite TV show, M.A.S.H. I have most of the dvd's and my lovely wife cringes every time I drag them out for she knows the big screen will be be locked up until GC is done.
From the humi I selected a Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 50 Years torpedo cigar. I love to smoke a cigar with great history and this is one. It was created to honor the 50th Anniversary of the Torano Family's leaving Cuba and the story behind the family is in itself a wealth of history.
This is a very beautiful cigar, nice dark brown wrapper and the copper tone bands are attractive.
Once cut and torched I sat back in my recliner and turned on the big screen. I started by watching an episode involving the original cast and they were deep in the operating room with Hawkeye as typical berating Frank. As I watched, the cigar was delivering to me in those first few puffs after getting started a nice short blast of spice backed up with a very deep and rich coffee tone that perks my interest. Directly behind that introduction of mild bitter sweet chocolate found its place in the mix. Oh this is getting good! While I continued to enjoy the complexity that is building, I switched to an episode where they are in the wash up room of the hospital and Frank just snapped at Hawkeye with a towel, the reaction is priceless. The smoke filling the room has an enticing perfume to it that smells of cocoa and wood, as the smoke settles into a layer that one can see easing along the living room. Nearing the halfway point my attention is no longer on the big screen but on the cigar alone. the mixture of flavors in this cigar keeps the pallet exhilarated in anticipation of what may be next. At the mid point, the dark rich coffee that has just a hint of thick Creole roast is blending with the bitter sweet chocolate, combine this with a touch of sweetness akin to peanut brittle and the flavors become outstanding. The amount of smoke being produced is not chocking but instead a good exceptional and capable cloud of aromatic goodness. Enjoying every puff and now reaching the end, I watched the final episode as Hawkeye climbs into the helicopter and BJ rides his motorcycle to a goodbye made of stone. The finality of the Exodus 50 Years bring the core flavors still present but with the addition of the spice returning and the sweetness of the peanut brittle easing back. What a shame I did not have another to light up as it is a magnificent cigar. The Carlos Torano Exodus 1959 50 Years is a cigar worth of any humidor and if it has not been tried you are missing out on a cigar that offers and exceedingly wonderful smoking experience. Mr. Torano, Thanks for crafting a fantastic cigar.
